Hello and Welcome!

“Product Discovery” is the method we use to take our client’s ideas and turn them into software changes or new features. We have the opportunity to learn about opporunities using surveys, support case trends, user groups, one-on-one conversations, and account managers – as well as here!

Discovery can include conversations, observation, drawing, sketching, and prototyping with you. We hope this forum will allow us to be more transparent as to what discovery topics are currently ongoing, and which go through to a release.

  1. Show current academic year classes in FAWeb before the term starts

    Even though the "current Academic Year" has started already the Faculty cannot view their classes because the "term" hasn't started yet. Why can't they view courses for the upcoming term if they fall within the current year? Teachers need to prepare for their classes before they actually start. I know they can access them through the Gradebook, but they set these up so rarely they can't remember to look there for them. They need them right there on their home page or they panic!

      • Add the option to print the GPA: "Date Last Changed" to the Transcript - Some scholarships require this

        The South Carolina Palmetto Fellows Scholarship requires the Date Last Calculated to be printed directly on the Transcript. Currently there is no way to draw this date directly from the database and put it on the Transcript. Our students who qualify for this Scholarship have to have their transcripts printed separately with a "work around".

        We are hoping since Blackbaud is based in Charleston, they will fix this quickly as it is a South Carolina scholarship this affects. It would also be a helpful selling point for Education Edge in general to be able to do this.

        • allow teachers to customize show assignment and show grade dates

          Currently, there is only one default setting. I would like the assignment to show as soon as I enter it, and I would like the grade to show on the day that it is due. If you turn off the default, then no dates appear, and if you don't fill in the columns, then the student never sees either the assignment or the grade.

          • Allow the faculty access supervisor the ability to advance the academic year setting for all users.

            At the start of the new academic year teachers forget they need to advance their academic year setting in faculty access to to see the current academic year's grade book and attendance roster. It would be nice if the supervisor could just press one button and advance to the current academic year in the teacher grade books for them.

            Alternatively the process could be automated. Since all academic years are defined by a start date and end date, faculty access could take the current date and automatically select the apropriate academic year.

            • Find a way to output "two or more races" as a student's ethnicity when multiple ethnicities are chosen

              Allow multiple ethnicities to be chosen for a student in the demographics table, but output an ethnicity of "two or more races" when doing queries for any student with multiple ethnicities to help with federal reporting requirements.

                  All of the Blackbaud applications are unnecessarily fragmented. It is nonsensical to expend so much effort on integrating applications when they should all stem from a common platform.

                  As I see it, Blackbaud is fundamentally about tracking people. Applications, students, teachers, alumni, individuals, etc. Everything you do in Blackbaud is based on tracking some kind of activity from people. Unfortunately, Blackbaud treats many of the real-world roles each person plays as separate entities, which leads to the myriad of integration problems.

                    Multiple times throughout the year, as we compile athletic teams and extra-curricular activities, I have to compile email lists for communication to relationships (parents / faculty parents).

                    I currently have to use several time consuming steps to compile a student list: Create the student query based on an activity, Add an activity attribute to the student record using a wizard, verify all records got the attribute, create a parent query from the student attribute, then add that list to Net Community.

                    When the student gets cut, doesn't make the team or drops out of the club I have to remove…

                    • Show assignments in reverse order so that the most recent grade is nearest the student's name.

                      Assignments enter from left to right. The screen shows only the earliest entries, I have to scroll to the right to see the assignment and enter grades. If the order were reversed, any new assignment would be directly beside the student's name and always visible without having to scroll horizontally.

                      • Add a feature to allow teachers to email progress reports and missing assignments reports to students and parents andor post to NetClassroom

                        You should be able to email the progress reports and missing assignments reports generated to students and parents directly through Reports. They can use that information more than I need it - I have my gradebook. Additionally, you should be able to post the reports to NetClassroom so that students can get their overall performance from their teacher, rather than just individual assignment scores.

                        • Allow students to change the priority of their requests in Online Course Requests

                          We are able to manually enter priority levels for student requests in FAWeb and Registrar's Office, but they should be able to do this themselves to save man-hours that must be spent collecting and inputting this information.

                            • Create additional requirement options for Degree Requirements, such as upper division minimum, cumulative GPA, and total credits earned

                              When creating the requirements for a bachelor's degree, we can put in general education requirements and attach majors to that "degree." However, there is no good way to set a total number of requirements needed for the degree without adding an "elective" category and listing every single class that could meet elective requirements. Doing this would be cumbersome to build, and would make the degree audit huge and hard for students to understand. We need to be able to somehow include elective courses in the degree audit without having to add each course in our catalog.

                                  The state of Wisconsin has a new tax credit for Tuition paid and we would like to combine multiple payment receipts on to a one page receipt for families that would show all the payments. If they pay monthly that would be 9 separate receipts.

                                        • Allow sorting by owner LAST name when applying payments in Student Billing, instead of by first name.

                                          When posting a payment for multiple students (particularly, from our Tuition Collection Company), it would be very helpful to have the "owner" (student) name sorted by LAST name.
